The service lift has to be booked
In most Bangalore apartments the service lift is reserved through the association, often a day or two in advance, sometimes with a refundable deposit. A crew standing next to a locked lift is billed time.
There are time windows
Plenty of societies allow moving only between 9am and 6pm, and some ban it on Sundays. Whitefield and Sarjapur Road townships are particularly strict about this.
You may need a gate pass
Both buildings. The one you are leaving usually wants a no-dues certificate before letting the truck out.
Lift dimensions decide your day
Older buildings in Indiranagar, Malleshwaram and Jayanagar often have lifts too small for a wardrobe. Measure the lift, or expect the stairwell.
Truck size and the basement
Some societies only allow goods vehicles in the basement, and basements have height limits. A 17-foot truck will not fit. Ask before booking the vehicle.
What to do about it
One phone call to the association, three days before. Ask about the lift booking, timing, gate pass and vehicle access. Five minutes on the phone saves a wasted morning.
