Driven
Someone drives your car to the destination. It looks cheaper. It adds the full distance to your odometer, wears the tyres and clutch, and puts your car in the hands of a driver you have never met for two days. Any incident on the way is a conversation you do not want to have.
On a carrier
The car is loaded onto a carrier and strapped at four points. Zero kilometres added. Photographs at loading and delivery. Costs ₹9,000 to ₹22,000 within India depending on distance and whether the carrier is open or covered.
Open or covered
Open carriers are cheaper and fine for most cars. Covered ones protect from dust and stone chips, and are worth it for a new or expensive vehicle.
Before handover
- Take the fuel down to about a quarter tank
- Remove everything personal from the car
- Note existing scratches and photograph them
- Keep the keys — the carrier does not need them once loaded
- Disable the alarm if it triggers on movement
Two-wheelers
Bikes are wrapped and can travel in the same container as your household goods, which makes them cheaper — ₹4,000 to ₹9,000 typically. Fuel is drained and the battery disconnected.
